Huntsville, Alabama – The North Alabama Showcase and Southern Showcase will be taking place at the John Hunt Cross Country Course this Friday and Saturday.
The North Alabama Showcase is a collegiate level meet directed by the University of North Alabama (UNA). The North Alabama Showcase will start at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, September 17. The list of confirmed teams for this weekend’s races include Alabama, Alabama A&M, Augusta, Tennessee – Chattanooga, East Tennessee State University (ETSU), Georgia, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, Mississippi State, North Alabama, Mississippi (Ole Miss), Reinhardt, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Tennessee, Tulane, University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and Wallace State.
“We are looking forward to partnering with the Huntsville Sports Commission to bring a highly competitive collegiate cross-country meet to north Alabama,” stated Jeremy Provence, UNA Cross Country Head Coach/Assistant Game Operations Manager. “This will be a great opportunity for our teams to run with some of the top DI programs in the South Region on a course, that in its short history, has a reputation of being one of the best in the south.”
National rankings have the Alabama women’s team ranked 7th and the Ole Miss women’s team ranked 15th. For the men, Ole Miss is ranked 16th in the nation. Regionally, seven of the top 15 South Region men’s and women’s teams will be participating.
The Southern Showcase is a high school cross-country meet directed by Huntsville High School. The Southern Showcase is a two-day event that starts at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 17 and 8 a.m. on Saturday, September 18. Over 120 high school teams from across the region will be participating. “Huntsville High Cross-Country is looking forward to partnering with the Huntsville Sports Commission, Huntsville Parks & Recreation and Fleet Feet Sports in hosting one of the most competitive high school cross-country meets the deep south has ever known with over 120 teams registered,” said Blake Borden, Huntsville High Cross-Country Head Coach. “This is such an amazing opportunity for high school teams in the Huntsville Metro area to compete with some of the top programs in the south on what is, in my opinion, quickly becoming the premiere cross-country course not just in the region, but nationally.”
The North Alabama Showcase and Southern Showcase have a combined total of approximately
$1.4 million in economic impact for the city of Huntsville this weekend.
