2020 GSC Cross Country Championship Comes to Huntsville, AL

The Gulf South Conference(GSC) Cross Country Championship is set to take place Saturday, October 31, at the John Hunt Park Cross Country Course. There will be 11 colleges from the conference participating for the championship title. The Men’s 8K Championship will begin at 9 am with the Women’s 8K Championship following at approximately 10 am. The GSC Cross Country Championship is free to attend.

The Alabama Huntsville Chargers (#3 National Coaches Poll, #1 GSC) will head into the 2020 GSC Men’s Cross Country Championship as the favorite. The Chargers have won all four of their races this season, and they will now be looking to win back-to-back GSC Championships. Jay Day, the 2019 GSC Men’s Cross Country Individual Champion, has finished in the top-three of every race he’s competed in this season. Harold LaCroix and Allan Anderson, both First Team All-GSC selections last year, will also be runners to keep an eye on. 2019 Second Team All-GSC selection Alex Herbst has the sixth fastest 8K time in the GSC this year and will be another runner to watch.

The Lee Flames (#7 National Coaches Poll, #2 GSC) will be the Chargers’ top challenger. Senior Christian Noble has had a storied career and will look to tie the record of three GSC Individual Championships. He has won three races this season, and he has the three fastest 8K times in the conference. Caleb Eagleson is a two-time First Team All-GSC selection who will also be a key runner for the Flames. Casey GutheryAdan Rodriguez, and Thomas Kelton are previous All-GSC selections to watch as well.

The Mississippi College Choctaws (#3 GSC) will also provide tough opposition. Evan Del Rio (2019 First Team All-GSC) and Gabe Poulin (2019 Second Team All-GSC) are their two returning all-conference selections. The pair have garnered five top 10 finishes between them this season.

Montevallo’s Joe Leventry will be the Falcons’ top individual challenger. The 2018 Second Team All-GSC selection ran the seventh fastest 8K time in the conference this season.

Union’s Cornelius Kipchumba was a 2019 Second Team All-GSC selection and will be a Bulldog runner to watch.

Jacob Russell Lister and Micah Britton will lead the way for the Warhawks, with both recording multiple top 10 finishes in 2020.

Brishen House of Valdosta State has finished in the top 10 in all of his races this season.

Solomon Komen of West Georgia is a two-time First Team All-GSC selection. He has won two races this season.

West Alabama’s Audrick Pyronneau has the Tigers’ top 8K time this season, and he will be looking to propel them to a high finish.

Shorter’s Jordan Hellier has the Hawks’ top 8K time this season and will be looking to lead them on Saturday.
