Huntsville, AL – The Toyota U.S. Open is set to begin today, November 12th, at the Huntsville Aquatic Center and run through November 14th. USA Swimming unveiled the nine cities selected to host the U.S. Open in early October and announced Huntsville, AL as one the locations. The Toyota U.S. Open in Huntsville is hosted by Huntsville Swim Association with assistance by the Huntsville Sports Commission and City of Huntsville.
Matt Webber, Head Coach of Huntsville Swim Association, stated that, “The U.S. Open will allow some of the best swimmers from across the country an extremely important opportunity to race.”
While the U.S. Open traditionally featured 700-800 athletes in one location, the multi-site Toyota U.S. Open will allow for more than 1,800 athletes to compete simultaneously across the nation. The Toyota U.S. Open will consist of four-timed finals sessions and both a women’s and men’s flight per session.
“It’s an honor to host such a prestigious event like the U.S. Open at the Huntsville Aquatic Center and we hope it encourages other distinguished events to consider Huntsville as its next location.” Said Ralph Stone, Executive Director of the Huntsville Sports Commission.
All local, state and federal health guidelines will be strictly adhered to and entry limits will reflect these restrictions. Results from each site will be combined by USA Swimming and published in a comprehensive results report. While it is free for spectators to attend only a limited amount of tickets are available for each session and can be reserved through Eventbrite.
“The City of Huntsville is honored to be one of nine locations selected to host the 2020 Toyota U.S. Open,” stated Steve Ivey, Director of Huntsville Parks & Recreation. “When we renovated our pool facility in 2017 these were the types of respected events we envisioned hosting.”
